The warm sun dappled through the kitchen window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Sarah hummed along to the radio, expertly flipping pancakes. Breakfast was her favorite part of the day, a ritual of comfort. She’d always known her parents were her “real” parents. She felt a peacefulness she had always known.

The Ancestry.com results arrived in a neat little email. Curiosity piqued, she clicked. A rush of names, percentages, and geographical regions blurred before her eyes. Then, a match. A first cousin. And beneath that, a note: “Likely biological parent.”

Sarah felt nothing. She simply closed the laptop, poured herself a cup of coffee, and went back to the pancakes. The smell of maple syrup filled the air, mingling with the quiet clinking of her silverware. This… was exactly right.
